Lee Michaels

Lee Michaels

Lee Michaels signed with A&M Records in 1967 and released his psychedelic-influenced debut album Carnival Of Life and went on to release 7 albums on A&M between 1967-1973. Michaels’ unorthodox use of a bare-boned lineup, which highlighted the Hammond organ, accompanied by a drummer, attracted a following in San Francisco and he became an FM Radio staple with songs such as his stoner anthem “Heigty Hi.” He didn’t achieve real commercial success until 1971 with his fifth album titled 5th, which featured his Top 10 hit single, “Do You Know What I Mean.”
